![]() But you should be expecting rather graphic violence.Machete poses an interesting problem for me as an amateur reviewer.įirstly, it's supposed to be a regen. It should be okay for audiences 16 and up, that understand its tongue-in-cheek character. It is very action-ish and rough, due to its high stylization, it is not too intense. In the "Machete" trailer we see people getting shot with spurting blood, and two topless women.Įven though having many inappropriate scenes of violence, sex and language, it is so over-the-top that it is okay for mature teens.Īlso, unliek many other zombie movies, "Planet Terror" is not meant to frighten or shock, but to entertain. There are several uses of the f-word, as well as some milder profanity. A man attempts to rape a woman, but gets killed in a very graphic way before anything happens (the penis melting scene mentioned above). There is no pubic area or breasts, but thrusting and moaning (it can be compared to the sex scene in "The Terminator"). Later, there is a sex scene between the two protagonists. The movie starts with a lapdance scene, but it is not too graphic, even though lasting for the entire opening credits. It is hard to write down everything because there is so much violence. A dog is run over by a car, a boy accidentally shoots himself. The protagonist's leg is ripped off by the zombies (we see the afterwards). He then gets infected and his penis melts on-screen (it does not exactly look like a penis, but see a viscous substance where his penis is used to be), then a needle is shot into his eye, until he completely melts into a zombie, before he vomits out tentacles (this scene is rather disgusting than shocking, or very comical). ![]() A rapist is poked into the eye with a wooden stick, teh stick breaks up and is stuck in his eye. ![]() A man is castrated against his will, we don't see the impact, but we see one of his bloody, graphic testicles on the floor (rather disgusting than disturbing). Several people are shot with much blood spurting from the wounds in an extreme amount. A helicopter's propeller chops up several zombies. There are two scenes featuring exploding heads, one time a human is unexpectedly shot in the head and it explodes the other time the female protagonist shoots a Zombie's head into a pieces towards the end. Some of these scenes are more detailed, while other are done in rapid cuts. And you get what to expect from a zombie movie: bodies being torn apart or ripped open, there are some scenes featuring organs. "Planet Terror" will not be everyone's cup of tea, and there will be many people saying that this movie is not good because of its cheap look, but it is exactly what "Grindhouse" is: Exploitation fun at its best! There is a superb fake trailer for the then-fictional film "Machete" at the beginning, which gained so much popularity that it was turned into a real film. The soundtrack, which was composed by Robert Rodriguez is great, reminding of the soundtrack used in older B-movies. There are missing reel jokes and emulsion scratches. Also, while Tarantino's movie lost its rough and corny looking visual style after the first hour, this movie sticks to the intentionally poor quality until the end. And the movie is what you're expecting from a film like this: there is violence, there is sex and there is a silly plot. Robert Rodriguez made a Zombie flick, but did not focus on shock value or suspense, but instead went straight ahead for an action movie. It is refreshing and entertaining, not taking itself too seriously with many memorable scenes and propably the most abstruse leg prosthesis ever seen in a film. Simply for being what makes an exploitation film: a lot of fun! Yes, "Planet Terror" does not have any deeper meaning or intelligent plot, but overall, it IS a grindhouse film. "Planet Terror" is Robert Rodriguez' half of Grindhouse. ![]() Due to it failing at the box office, since many people did not get the idea of what a grindhouse movie is, the movies were released seperately elsewhere in the world and on DVD, in extended cuts. ![]() Two full-length feature films at the price of one, recreating the look of old exploitation films. In 2007, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez released the double feature "Grindhouse" in American theatres. "Planet Terror" is a Grindhouse movie by Robert Rodriguez released in 2007. ![]()
